Art Center Fieldtrips

Art for Arts Sake

Students can come and create art in our colorful and inspiring Art Center. Teachers are always looking for “new” ideas for school fieldtrips and we can definitely be the answer. We offer a variety of lessons in 4 areas of instruction: Mixed Media, Fiber/Craft, Cultural Arts, and Ceramics. Each area of instruction offers a wide range of possibilities from creating hand crafted pillows to learning to throw a pot on the ceramics wheel. Students create 2 projects in this given time period - a main project with a smaller less time consuming 2nd project.

Grade: Pre K – 8th
Fee: $5 per child for 1 ½ hours of art instruction and actual creating.
Maximum Size: 40 students
Length: 45 minute rotation, total of 1.5 hours for actual instruction

Creative Arts

We can also create art activity lesson plans to go along with your school curriculum. If a teacher is working on a particular unit with her students and would like to have it complimented with a fieldtrip to the Art Center we will be happy to create exciting and inspiring art lessons to further educate on a certain topic, theme, etc. (Ex. If a classroom teacher is working on a unit of Mexico in 2nd grade you could visit the Art Center to create Mexican Folk Art or if you are working on a reading series of Tomie dePaola, art lessons can be created to enrich reading and understanding using art as a tool) Students create 2 projects in this given time period - a main project with a smaller less time consuming 2nd project.

The Gallery Education program offers workshops with projects designed to complement social studies or foreign language curriculum. Workshops feature pieces from the Hand-in-Hand Folk Art Collection or focus on art of Latin America. Each workshop has an accompanying workbook containing cultural information, games and more! Teachers can use these workbooks in preparation for their visit or as a review.  Contact Alisha Gambino, 816-581-5632 to schedule.
